The Wonder Club: The Lamentable Tragedy

Otherstory created a shadow installation and performance as part of The Wonder Club‘s promenade show The Lamentable Tragedy, in 2010.  The show was set at St James’s Fair in Bristol, 1836.  The installation formed a sideshow, with revolving shadow lanterns depicting moments in the fair’s turbulent 700-year history.  Shadow projections also interacted with key moments in the action of the characters.

The great thing about this show is that it feels embedded in its surroundings and draws on the work of local artists. There are shadow puppet sideshows, icy trees dangling tarot cards and foetuses, opportunities for the audience to audition to be Charles’s new leading lady, and wandering tricksters.
